Autodesk Fusion 360 is a cloud-integrated CAD/CAM/CAE platform that traditionally requires local installation, online authentication, and periodic updates. This paper explores the technical and practical feasibility of creating a — i.e., a self-contained executable that runs from external media (USB, external SSD) without administrative privileges or residual system footprints. We analyze portable application frameworks, Fusion 360’s dependency stack (.NET, C++, WebView2, local cache), licensing restrictions, and synchronization challenges. A prototype methodology using sandboxing, symbolic links, and offline license tokens is proposed. Results indicate that while a fully portable version is technically possible for limited offline functionality, real-time collaboration, cloud storage, and automatic updates remain significant hurdles.

Autodesk continues to aggressively develop Fusion 360, and the 2026 updates are substantial. Knowing what's new in the latest official version highlights the gap between legitimate software and any theoretical (or fake) portable edition.
