The pre-Next-Gen version lacks the intrusive Creation Club marketing and menu options that many players find annoying. As one user put it, the GOG version of 1.10.163 has “no pesky CC announcements or menu options on the home screen”.
While primarily focused on backend maintenance, Patch 1.10.163 introduced several minor improvements and supported new content:
Bethesda’s official patch notes for 1.10.163 (abridged):
Steam Cloud Saves disabled to prevent synchronization issues. A clean installation of the game is recommended.
Its primary significance is that in 2024 with the so-called “Next-Gen” update. Almost all older mods, especially those dependent on F4SE (Fallout 4 Script Extender) , were designed to work on version 1.10.163.

The centerpiece of the update, however, was a highly anticipated creation called which had been delayed from the previous month. This content allowed players to travel to new, simulated worlds from their settlements, complete with unlimited resources, placeable enemy spawners, and a variety of visual filters. It was a novel addition for settlement-building enthusiasts but hardly a game-changer. No one at the time could have predicted that this unassuming update would become the gold standard for modding.

While originally released by Bethesda on December 4, 2019 , to resolve minor Creation Club issues, its modern relevance cannot be overstated. It stands as the final "Old Gen" version before Bethesda introduced major engine-level structural overhauls—such as the Next-Gen update (1.10.980+) and the late 2025 Anniversary Update—which severely shattered the game's modding ecosystem.
Interestingly, the patch also temporarily added two new files— Fallout4 - Misc - Beta.ba2 and Fallout4 - Misc - Debug.ba2 —which were mysteriously removed by Bethesda shortly after the patch's release, making them obsolete. Beyond the new Creation Club listings, this update was primarily about "a number of small fixes that were not included in the 1.10.162.0 patch"—an intentionally vague description that has fueled the modding community's quest for the ultimate stable build.
