One of the most innovative features of HYFRAN-PLUS is its integrated Decision Support System (SAD in French). This system was developed to help users choose the most appropriate class of distributions for estimating high return period quantiles. The DSS distinguishes between different distribution classes based on tail behavior:

Hyfran Plus remains a foundational tool in hydrologic engineering. By providing sophisticated statistical analysis, it empowers professionals to make informed decisions regarding infrastructure design, flood mitigation, and water management. Whether updating IDF curves or predicting future flood risks, Hyfran Plus offers the precision required for sustainable water management.

The software takes raw historical datasets (often spanning 30–50 years) and summarizes them to identify peaks and patterns.

Exceeding 2.0% by cement weight can cause: One of the most innovative features of HYFRAN-PLUS

A 2025 study in the Lower Filyos Basin combined HYFRAN-PLUS with HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS hydrological modeling software. The research analyzed flood dynamics for return periods of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 years. The analysis revealed that while precipitation volume increased, the amount of water converted to surface runoff remained limited due to infiltration and other losses—a critical finding for basin management and flood prevention strategies.

Not every city or neighborhood embraced Hyfran Plus. In some places it remained a curiosity; in others, it became woven into everyday life. In neighborhoods with strong civic ties, it strengthened webs already in place. In places battered by trauma and neglect, it was fragile but sometimes transformative: a small steady place to be heard where the state’s institutions had been absent. The difference, invariably, was the same: who showed up and how long they stayed. The software takes raw historical datasets (often spanning
