Human beings are flawed, and worldly objects are temporary. Allah is perfect, eternal, and free from any deficiency. Love for perfection is naturally stronger and more sustainable.

According to classical commentators like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this verse was revealed specifically concerning the idolaters who, during times of peace and prosperity, would express intense devotion to their idols. They would seek refuge in them, sacrifice for them, and defend them vehemently. This is no accident. Allah is saying:
Allah commands: "Say, [O Muhammad], 'If you love Allah, then follow me, and Allah will love you...'" (3:31). The path to Allah's love is not through mystical innovations; it is through imitating the one Allah loves the most—Muhammad (ﷺ). Sleep like him, eat like him, forgive like him.
